Le Grand Bornand

The official French Biathlon resort

In  2013 the village of Le Grand Bornand will host the first French Biathlon World Cup. The vast cross-country skiing field boasts 62km of tracks (including the Frasses “black” run which borders with La Clusaz) and a variety of low level runs at Le Bouchet and Chinaillon … great for practicing your ski technique in sublime conditions.

Nordic ski athletes from Le Grand Bornand will be under pressure this ski season 2009-2010 and also for the Olympic Games in Vancouver. These skiers are proud to represent their village - and will hopefully bring back a few medals.

A wide range of slopes for all levels can be found on the snow-covered mountains of Le Grand Bornand. There is a ski run for all abilities and each member of the family - 42 of the 90km of slopes being supervised. These include the ski areas of Chinaillon, Joyere, Maroly and Lachat, which served by 30 ski lifts.

The village of Le Grand-Bornand is at 1000m altitude with the highest peak being in the Chinaillon area which stands at 1300m. The ski resort offers numerous activities, one of the most popular being The Snowpark. Recognised as one of the top five snowparks in France, it has become a must-do for those who would like to try freestyle skiing for the first time. Fully equipped, it includes a Boardercross, a half pipe, railings for learners and four ski jumps.
